what is the shape of the AI computing elephant
I was there pretty early: dot com bubble, gmail at 14 years old, motorola razr, before things really started happening on the internet. I started coding at the dawn of Facebook. The cycles seem so clear after seeing the last five, almost predictable: mobile apps, gig economy, SaaS, Web3, AI, robotics, upmarket gig economy, personalized manufacturing, AI religion, butlerian jihad…
I write a lot of code with AI. It feels like a natural progression here too. We’ve been moving up the ladder of abstraction with software since the beginning, but recently it feels like we’re nearing the final level. I grew up on Django, Heroku, Sublime Text. These days we have vibe coding, Vercel, Claude Code. You can vibe code a 3D game and ship it in a day. You can pay $5 for Claude Code to fix some customer feedback.
And yet, somehow, it all still feels like dialup internet. It feels so primitive. Programming languages were made for humans to write, not machines.
In the future, you will just get instant perfect assembly code that evolves with use, digital computronium, a new kind of virtual living matter…
What is the final form of computronium? Is it differential logic circuit automata, or diffusion LLMs, or liquid neural networks, or something entirely new and surprising?
